Discussion notes, key understandings, outstanding questions, observations, and, if appropriate to this discussion: action items, next steps:
Jim described the process of obtaining the new Estonian e-resident credential and why someone might want one. It’s a “standard” client-side certificate, but signatures made with it have legal standing in Estonia.
He then gave a demo of signing in with an Estonian e-ID; and discussed the good and less good features of the program. Privacy is a particular problem, since all authentications convey the full legal name of the user as well as the Estonian personal ID number, which contains the user’s date of birth.
More detail on the Estonian e-resident card is available on Jim’s blog at: http://altmode.org/2015/10/25/estonian-e-residency
